Brian Welch | Director / Head Coach
Brian Welch is entering his first season as head coach of the Concordia-Chicago Men's Lacrosse program after being hired in June of 2017.
“I am super excited about this opportunity and being part of a program that’s still fairly new” said Welch. “I look forward to building a program that will be very competitive right away, and I feel we will bring a lot of excitement to campus.”
Welch is a 1997 graduate of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN and earned his master’s at Ohio University in 2004. Upon graduation, he worked a series of jobs in the educational field, focusing on the areas of enrollment management and student success.
In 2013, while serving as a volunteer assistant coach for football at his alma mater, Marian High School in Mishawaka, IN, he was informed of the school’s interest in starting a boys’ lacrosse program. Given the green light by his athletic director, Welch jumped head-first into building the program from the ground up. In the program’s first three seasons, the Knights achieved a record of 31-15 and developed several players that went on to successful college careers. Welch coached two Indiana All-State players, two Academic All-State players, four honorable mention All-State players and, in John Jessup, the national winner of the 2013 Bob Scott Award, an honor given to a player who shows top leadership skills on and off the field.
